Also called The Top End. The northern extremity of the Northern Territory. After four solid days of driving across the Outback we arrived at an overflowing, hot, entirely grim campground that featured a loud nostalgia band playing Jimmy Buffet covers. Now, there's a time and a place for Jimmy (be nice, yes there is), but this was decidedly not it. Feeling murderous I yelled a fair bit at my family (this is called "displaced aggression" when applied to cat behaviour) and when this curiously failed to make anyone feel better we left first thing the next morning.
Ending up here. Here being a dusty patch of Outback on the edge of Kakadu. Utterly quiet except the episodic shrieking of gallahs. Utterly empty except a few dessicated gum trees, a couple friendly flies and our laconic host. I love it. No more words now, just a photo roundup from the epic drive (yes, epic).
I'm trying to guess what the first picture is. Gum tree???
Yes, you got it! So many fascinating patterns. I'll be posting more gum tree / eucalyptus photos. Trying to spot and photograph the brumby (mustang) that apparently lives near here, but no luck so far...
